Website development

Website development in Auckland

The build half of the job, for businesses that already have a design, a brand, or a developer who walked away mid-project. We write production code you can hand to anyone, on infrastructure you own.

What you get

  • Production code in a Git repository under your account
  • Hosting on Vercel, Cloudflare or AWS, billed to you rather than through us
  • Core Web Vitals in the green on mobile before we call it done
  • WCAG AA accessibility: keyboard navigation, contrast, focus states, alt text
  • Forms wired to your inbox or CRM, with spam handling that does not use a captcha
  • Analytics and Search Console connected and verified
  • A README that explains how to run, edit and deploy the site

What we build with

React with TypeScript for the application layer, static generation for anything that can be static, and a headless CMS only where someone on your team genuinely needs to edit content. Hosting runs on Vercel or Cloudflare, both of which serve from Sydney and Auckland edges rather than a shared box in Texas.

The stack is a deliberate choice rather than a preference. A static-first build removes the two failure modes that take small business sites offline: a plugin conflict after an update, and a traffic spike overwhelming shared hosting. Neither applies when the page is already built and sitting on a CDN.

Where a project genuinely suits WordPress or Shopify, we say so. A shop doing 200 orders a month on Shopify has no business paying for a headless rebuild.

Rescuing a stalled build

A steady share of our work starts with a half-finished project and a developer who stopped replying. If that is where you are, the first step costs you a day of our time: we read the repository, run the build, and write you an honest assessment of what exists, what works, and what it would take to finish.

Sometimes the answer is that the existing code is fine and needs four weeks of work. Sometimes the answer is that starting again is cheaper than untangling it. You get the assessment either way, in writing, and you are free to take it to another developer.

Performance as a build requirement, not a phase

Speed gets treated as something to fix after launch on most projects, which is why so many sites launch slow and stay slow. We set a performance budget at the start and hold the build to it.

In practice that means images served in modern formats at the size they render, fonts subset and preloaded, JavaScript split so a visitor downloads the code for the page they asked for, and third-party scripts audited before they go in. A single unaudited marketing tag can cost you a second of load time, and most sites carry four of them.

Our breakdown of why sites are slow covers where the seconds actually go, and why a bigger hosting plan rarely recovers them.

Integrations and custom functionality

Booking systems, payment flows, member areas, quote calculators, inventory syncs and internal dashboards. We have built each of these for New Zealand businesses, including a zero-commission booking platform handling live availability for salons and studios.

If the functionality you need already exists as a reliable product, we integrate it rather than rebuild it. Custom code is a liability as much as an asset, and every line we write is a line someone has to maintain.

Common questions

Can you build from designs I already have?

Yes. Send us Figma files, an XD file, or even a PDF and we will quote the build. We review the designs first and flag anything that will cause problems in the browser, such as text that will not reflow on mobile or contrast that fails accessibility checks.

Do you take over websites built by someone else?

Regularly. We start with a paid audit of the existing code and hosting, then give you a written assessment of what it would cost to finish or maintain it. You keep the assessment whether or not you engage us for the work.

What hosting do you recommend?

Vercel or Cloudflare Pages for most sites, both of which serve New Zealand traffic from Sydney and Auckland edge locations. We set the account up in your name and billing details, so you are never renting your own infrastructure from us.

Will I be able to update the site myself?

For the parts that change. We connect a CMS to your blog, team page, testimonials and any section you tell us you will edit. Pages that never change stay in code, which keeps the site faster and removes the risk of someone breaking the layout.

Do you offer ongoing maintenance?

Hosting, SSL, backups, dependency updates and uptime monitoring are covered by a monthly care plan we quote separately from the build. Development work beyond that is quoted per job or covered by a monthly block of hours, and you can stop either at any time.

Tell us what you are trying to build.

Send a couple of paragraphs about the business and the problem. You get a reply within one business day, from the person who would do the work.
